Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a light touch of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in 19th, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
