Congress Approves Bill to Disclose Jeffrey Epstein Documents
The Senate on this Tuesday passed without delay to a measure that will mandate the disclosure of official records associated with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following a overwhelming vote in the US House of Representatives and a shift by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. The White House gave in after months of trying to block the joint action involving a scandal that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.
Swift Approval in Both Chambers
The Senate acted by unanimous consent, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a formal roll call vote, speeding up the process. Earlier that day, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a massive majority.
The public have been patient long enough. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have suffered long enough,” Chuck Schumer said in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before requesting the chamber to approve it without opposition. “Let the truth come out. Ensure full disclosure.”
Presidential Signature
The bill next will be sent to the president for his signature. He stated on the previous day that he would approve the bill.
Although Trump has for an extended period downplayed the outcry over the official management of the scandal as a “Democrat hoax”, he signalled his support for the measure over the past few days, and said he would give his assent if it reaches his desk.
Response
Opposition lawmakers, along with those affected and their representatives who were watching from a public section, applauded after the bill was approved. The sole “no” vote came from a GOP representative, who stated he feared the measure would make public specific data of people, persons of interest and others implicated in the investigation.
